210

We just picked up a 2017 AR210. Great boat so far. Here are the two biggest caveats I'd mention:1) If you boat in an area with a lot of debris, you will use the clean out ports regularly. It's not bad once you get used to it.2) Jet boats do handle differently at low speeds. Like you I grew up with prop boats, and there was a big learning curve to operate the Yamaha with low-speed docking stuff.

I bumped a lot of shit before I got decent at it. The trick is small spurts of throttle, then back to neutral. We have twin engines so a fuel comparison with your boat is probably moot, but it's not as bad on gas as we anticipated. Marina gas here is $4.20/gallon, so we do the gas cans to the dock thing, and it hasn't been too bad. Got a great siphon hose, so that helps. Our salesman and I were discussing this during the purchase.

Almost everything you hear about jet boats is outdated info - crap you'd hear during the 90's and 2000's. Prop salesmen perpetuate the jet boat myths to steer people back to prop boats. Yamaha (and some of the other jet builders) have corrected almost all of the typical jet complaints you hear. Other than different docking characteristics, our boat handles identical to the prop boats I've been on. And if you load some people in the back and hit about 10 or 12mph, you can actually get a pretty decent wake for watersports, and our boat doesn't even have ballast.

They now have articulating keels for improved maneuverability, better gas consumption, 6 gph at 20 mph, 4 stroke engines with an estimated 180 hp (Yamaha doesn't measure in horses), small enough to store in my garage- huge plus, plentiful aft deck without a huge outboard in the way, plus my kids are starting to get into wake sports. Based on Yamaha’s widely popular 210 sport boat models, the 210 FSH is well-suited for rougher waters and delivers the added peace of mind that comes with dual engines.

Plus, if you have kids it really is nice not having the prop - that isn't a just a bullshit selling point, it's a big deal to my wife!. I just had our 2012 Sea Doo 180 Challenger out on Galveston Bay for 5 days, and 0 issues with debris or grass, no clogging of the pump at all. It's actually a foot and a half shorter than the FSH and we had no problem with chop or the ride. It's the first time I've had in in salt water, we're usually lake people.I've sucked up some mud and/or grass near the dock on the lake, but a good stamp on the throttle blows it out. I've never had to reach under and clean anything out, but even if you did the Yamahas have the clean out ports. I will probably never have anything but a jet boat, the next planned one is a 212x or 242x.

Would a purchase like this be a horrible mistake? Anyone have experience on a sled like this? I've been in and around boats for over 10 years, mostly center consoles with outboard engines, mainly fishing and visiting sand bars in and around the Tampa Bay water ways including the intercostal and reefs 10 miles into the gulf.

I've been conditioned to dislike jet boats but this one has definitely caught my eye. Seems to have a competitive price point at $32k + fees for one equipped like the picture with the t-top.

All three models come with Yamaha's award-winning TR-1 High Output marine engines.Deluxe model upgrades include wiring for dual batteries, stainless steel rub-rail, head compartment curtain, a trolling motor mount, and upgraded seating/cushions.Starting at its large, wide bow, there is comfortable, padded seating with ample room for four adults. The padded cushions snap off, so they are easy to store or leave at home when you are heading out for a fishing trip. Located under the starboard bow seat is an insulated fish locker, and there is a dedicated locker for a full-size Danforth anchor. There is more storage below the port bow seat, in the sole, and inside two large consoles. In front of the helm console is even more seating, and the console lifts up to reveal an extra deep, large storage area that can also serve as a changing room or a head compartment thanks to the curtain enclosure that is included on the Deluxe and Sport models.
